Welcome to the EcoMotors website

The purpose of this website is to publicise the findings from an EC project related to the Eco-design directive on energy using products (EuP) for Lot 11. This directive covers the following 4 product categories:

  • Electric motors 1-150kW
  • Water pumps (in commercial buildings, drinking water pumping, food industry, agriculture)
  • Circulators in buildings
  • Ventilation fans (non-residential buildings)

This preparatory study aims to identify and recommend ways to improve the environmental performance of energy using products throughout their lifetime at their design phase based on methodology developed by VHK for the European Commission for Eco-Design of electricity using products. The information provided by the study will be used to prepare for subsequent phases, including undertaking an impact assessment on policy options and to prepare a paper for the consultation of the forum. Those phases are to be carried out by the European Commission.

This study will identify:

  • Market characteristics for the products
  • Relevant environmental aspects of the products and their technical/economical potential for improvement
  • Existing relevant legislation
  • Self regulation by industry and standards
  • Needs for standards to be developed

Our approach in undertaking this study is detailed in this presentation.

The study will require active participation from stakeholders who are willing to contribute. If you would like to be involved in the consultaion process, you can do so through the website and/or participation at stakeholder meetings.

  • Timescales and reports for consultation can be found in stakeholder consultation
  • Members of the project team can be found at project team
  • A list of active stakeholders of the project can be found at stakeholder list
  • More information on the framework directive 2005/32/EC and on the Eco-design of Energy Using Products can be found in links

If you would like to contact us and/or register to be part of the stakeholder group, receive project updates and engage in the consultation please use this page.
